Until You, Without You |
| by Lindsey |
Always feeling alone, until you I didn't love myself, until you I didn't care about life, until you I never held a friend's hand, until you I never told a friend that I loved her, until you No one had ever held me for no reason, until you No one had ever truly known me, until you
Lying in the darkness, without you I don't know who I am, without you I don't know what to do with myself, without you How did I ever get by, without you How did I ever find comfort, without you Would I have ever seen my true self, without you Would I have ever known true friendship, without you |
poems Friends Don't Always Last by Ashley Baron I try to be nice, but you just laugh. I'm not fitting in anymore, what can I do? You don't realize, but it's starting to hurt. When everything's just right, it always turns to dirt.
Help me, what am I doing wrong? I don't understand, I'm there when your not strong. I try to be happy most of the time, but it's getting harder now, knowing your friendship isn't mine.
Promise by Jessica Sills As you sit in silence, Wondering why I'll be your shoulder to cry on Until your tears run dry.
When you've been hurt, And can't believe what they've done If you need someone to talk to I'll be the one.
If a close friend hurts you, And you don't understand Remember I'm here, I'll lend a helping hand.
Burdens are lighter when carried by two, And I just want you to know I'm here for you. !

My Friend |
| by Nokia |
I feel like I've known you forever Although I only met you sometime this past year But our friendship will remain forever No matter what shall cross our paths and hearts
The best thing that's happened to me Is finding a forever friend like you You're there to listen, help, and talk to And best of all, I know I can confide in you
Some say the best love is one sprung from friendship So I feel this is why we should try Time leads us in this direction Should we follow on down the line?
Friendship and love are always intertwined Too close which sometimes causes confusion But if we don't try, we will never know if it was meant to be But forever you will remain my friend
I don't know if this is going to work I'm not totally sure we should try But I have all these mixed feelings Bottled up inside
I love you both inside and out as my best friend And I know that you love me that way too So when I say "best friends forever" That even means when I'm saying" Goodbye, I love you, too." |
What You Mean To Me ... |
| by Nikkie |
You turned my darkness into light; You made everything all right. You picked me up when I was down; You turned my life around. If I didn't have you, what would I be? A blessing is what you are to me.
When I needed you the most, you were there; Even if it seemed like you didn't care. When I didn't think I could make it another day, You chased all my doubts away. If I didn't have you, what would I be? A treasure is what you are to me.
The world is full of many people, it's true; But there is only one of you. You fill my heart with love; You're a God-sent gift from above. If I didn't have you, what would I be? An angel is what you are to me.
Lost and alone, I will no longer be; Because you are here with me. There is no reason to be sad; You've taken away all the bad. If I didn't have you, what would I be? A best friend is what you are to me!! |
Goodbye |
| by Rosebud |
Well maybe now I should just say goodbye You used to be my friend But I never felt I really was yours So maybe this is the end. I'm different from you, all of you Each other we've never understood I hope that if I do tell you goodbye That it won't be for good. Whenever I'm mad it hurts me so bad And you don't even care I don't know why, I just want to cry And someday I won't be there. The streaks on my arm they've done me no harm They're only made of pen But once they are blood that turns brown like mud They'll be there again and again. If I'm mad at you I'll hurt myself too But that doesn't really matter Although when I hurt I feel like dirt And my spirit's bruised and battered. I do not know why it has to be so I really wish it did not But the way this has been going it is basically shot. You don't need me and we don't need we And that's how I think I know why These words are the ones I have to speak- I love you, but goodbye. | -honkogn im sry i broke the promise and u im sry too
Losing A Piece Of My Soul |
| by Jasmine Johnston |
I came to you the hour I was in pain Looking for answers, I cried to you in vain.
I shared the many skeletons hiding in my heart, I knew then you'd be my friend, I knew it from the start.
Troubles ran like rivers, flowing through my life, You picked the pieces up and help me through my strife.
When home wasn't home to me no more, You opened up your heart, and opened up the door.
We cried into night until the early morn. We solaced each other's pain and shared our many thorns.
As time flew, the air grew thick, I saw our friendship fading, and my heart grew sick.
The day had arrived, When it was time to say goodbye.
Now I sit alone, reminiscing the past I'd blown. |

And Where Were You? |
| by Valerie |
I never thought I'd see this day, I never thought I'd feel this way, You...a stranger to me now. I'm left with emptiness... I wish I knew how it could be, That we were once so open and free. You were like my brother.. yet so much more I wish I would have seen what I see now before. For, I did not and it's too late... My friend, my lover once, is now unknown. And what hurts the most is I now know.. What I lost.. and I'm alone. To face a challenge life has sent, And not a moment with you I've spent. I hope one day I can forgive you, my friend.. I miss you.... Why did you go? |

Short Answers 1. List Colonies by Region Southern Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia Middle New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware New England Colonies Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut 2. List Colonies created for Religious Free or for Profit Religious Freedom- Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Maryland Profit- New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia 3. Maryland as a model of Religious Freedom Maryland is a model of Religious Freedom because of the Act of Toleration (1649) which means all Christian will be able to worship freely, the two main Christian branches are Roman Catholic and Protestant allowed to prevent Christians from Persecution. he law was made mainly to protect the Roman Catholics living in Maryland, and Lord Baltimore wanted more people to come without hurting the Roman Catholic. (Maryland was kind of used as a safe haven to Catholics) 4. How and Why the Carolina’s became 2 Colonies Carolina was originally part of Virginia’s large land grant but in 1663 the Carolinas were established. Split in two colonies in 1712 because North Carolina had relatively small plantations while South Carolina had large scale plantations. North Carolina were called gentlemen farmers and they had like less than 20 slaves per farm. While in South Carolina, West Indies Plantation Owners came to South Carolina which lead to large scale plantations and 100% labor force of slaves. In Charleston, South Carolina it was on the only major Southern Port City. 5. Georgia as a buffer colony and a colony for debtors. George was a buffer colony between Spanish Florida and the Carolinas. It was also a colony for debtors because the founder James Oglethorpe was a philanthropist who has so much money that his job was to give it away to the poor. Any ways back in England people who couldn't afford to pay their taxes were sent to Debtor’s Prison and after 6 months the persons whole family would join him if he didn't pay up. Than once in awhile the jail will fill up because if the persons in jail he cant earn money, so than the jail would be emptied. All the people who were in the jail would now be sent to Australia and just dropped off with now supplies, absolutely nothing. So James Oglethorpe, the nice guy he was believed everybody deserved a second chance, decided to set up a colony for debtors as a safe haven for debtors to come over to Georgia and start over. In 1732 Georgia became a colony. His first rule was that each family get only 50 acres of land and no slaves. But after the first year when he only got 120 people, he changed the law and limited amount of slavery and larger portions of land. Also Georgia was a very rough place to live because it was pretty swampy, the native americans that lived there were not as friendly and plantations were avoided because slavery was banned. 6. How New York and New Jersey became a colony New York and New Jersey were originally pieces of land owned by the Dutch. New York was called New Netherlands and New Jersey was a part of New Netherlands back then. The colony was directed by a person who ran the colony as a dictator, Peter Stuyvesant and when the English captured it without a shot fired. Then the King gave the colony to his brother, Duke of York, which is how New York got it’s name. The Duke of York gave away New Jersey as a gift to the 8 Proprietors as a land grant. New York and New Jersey became a colony in 1664. 7. Penn’s idea for Pennsylvania William Penn was a Quaker and because his family was important people in England, he was granted the largest land grant ever given to a single individual in American 1682, It was founded. He called it Pennsylvania or also called Penn’s Wood Lands. He started his Holy Experiment which is to create a model of religious freedom, peace and Christian living. He wanted everybody to come to his colony and live there and be welcome but the King say no only Protestants. Religious toleration for Protestants. Native Americans were treated with respect, land paid for and their treaties honored. Philadelphia the capital city was the city of “Brotherly Love” Twice a year colonial legislature met in Philadelphia. 8. Who are Quakers Quakers are a middle challenging establishment who are a wacky Protestant sect and believe to be reformers, they are similar to the Pilgrims and Puritans but they went further than them. The Quakers were the most hated group in England, biggest threat to live in England because they are challenging the wealthy society of England. The Quakers believe that everyone’s God’s child and in God’s eyes were all equals. They refused to bow down to the wealthy and other important people and refused to let others bow down to them. The Quakers also helped those in need like Personal Charity. They were Pacifists against war and fighting. King hates the Quakers because they are challenging the establishment of the society of England. The Quakers tell peoples to move up and make a better of themselves. They are part of the Middle Society and they even refuse to bow down to the King. 9.How Delaware became a colony Delaware became a colony in 1776 because the Southern County of Pennsylvania asked for their own assembly which soon lead to Delaware parting from Pennsylvania.
Essay Question Explain what life is like in the Southern Colonies. Explain the Tide Water and the Back Country. As the Southern Colonies grew, two different ways of life emerged, the TideWater and the Back Country. The TideWater was along the Atlantic Coast. TideWater was known for its gentle slopes and rivers of offered rich farmland for Plantations. Farther inland, planters settled along rivers because it provided an easy way to move goods to market. Planters could load crops onto ships bound for the West Indies and Europe. On the return trips ships carried English Manufactured goods and other luxuries fro planters and their families. Most Tidewater plantations had their own docks and merchant ships picked up crops and delivered goods directly to them, which lead to few large seaport cities developed in the Southern Colonies. Although only a small percentage of Colonial Men owned large plantations, planters set the style of Life in the South. Life usually centered around the Great House, where the Planter’s family lived. The grandest of homes in the South usually had elegant quarters for the family, a parlor for visitors, a dining room, and guest bedrooms. In the growing season planters decided which fields to plant, what crops to grow, and when to harvest the crops and take them to market. Planter’s wives keep the household running smoothly and directed house slaves and made sure daily tasks were done.
In the Back Country, west of the TideWater, life was extremely different. At the base of the Appalachians, rolling hills and thick forests covered the Back Country. Attracted by rich soil, settlers followed the Great Wagon Road into the Back Country of the Southern Colonies. The back country was had more freedom than the Tidewater. Settler there were more likely to treat one another as equals.Men had smaller field of tobacco or corn and Women cooked meals and conditioned simply, rugged clothing out of wool and deerskins. In the 1700s thousands of German and Scotch Irish Settlers arrived in Philadelphia and traveled from there to west into the Back Country. They had followed an old Iroquois trail that became known as the Great Wagon Trail. The hardships of back country life brought the settlers living there closer together. Families gathers to husk corn or help one another to build barns. Spread out along the edge of the Appalachians, these hardy settlers felled trees, grew crops and changed the faces of the land. To farm the backcountrys, settlers had to clear thick forests. From the Indians, settlers were taught how to use knots from pine trees as candles to light their homes. They made wooden dishes from logs, gathered honey from hollows in trees, and hunted wild animals for food. German gunsmiths developed a light weight rifle for use in forests. Sharp shooters boasted that the rife could hit a rattlesnake between the eyes at 100 yards.
